TOB - Small Pink and Orange
Jo Ludwig's "ToB's" (Things of Beauty) are made through a process called fusing and slumping. Fusing and slumping is a two stage process. First, on a flat kiln shelf, a design is assembled from coloured (or stained glass). The shelf is placed in a kiln and heated until the glass melts, or fuses, into one single piece of flat glass. Second, after the kiln cools, the fused piece is removed and sometimes ground or sandblasted, then placed onto a mold. Mold and glass are then returned to the kiln and fired until the glass bends or "slumps" to the desired shape.
The result is these iridescent little bowls that fit in the palm of your hand but attract attention for miles.
5 cm across, 2 cm tall.
